The Fifth Plenary Session is complete.

Rev. Rafael Malpica Padilla affirmed the call of David Zellmer as Bishop of the SD Synod.

Rev. Dr. Anna Madsen led the Fifth Plenary Session in Bible Study from 2 Corinthians, Chapter 5.

“The one to whom we align ourselves is to Jesus the Christ. We are free to be called. We can’t be alone. With a promise and the people of the promise, our odds go up. Feast together.”

Bishop Zellmer delivered the State of the Synod.

  • Health Assessement- The pastors saved the Synod $48,000 for taking the health assessment.
  • There were a few photos from the past in honor of celebrating 25 years as a Synod.
  • Announcement of God’s Work, Our Hands work Sunday, Sept. 8.
  • Celebrated the beginning of brand new congregations: Woyatan Lutheran and WestSide Lutheran.
  • Announced that we are nearing 60 ordinations in 6 years as the SD Synod.
    Report from Partners Against Hunger: Bishop Zellmer wants to strengthen food ministry and feed those who are hungry–especially focused on summer feeding programs for school-aged children. Lisa Moretz from Partners Against Hunger spoke about the ministry and the work that she does with Feed Brookings. Capital Campaign: “Building the church for Tomorrow-Today.”
    • Answer the Call – expand program and focus on debt reduction
    • Fully fund the ministry at Woyatan Lutheran
    • Outreach. We need to be sending people out in significant ways. these people are a gift.
    • Tithe our capital campaign to the Churchwide campaign

Betty Oldenkamp, President of Lutheran Social Services in South Dakota, gave a presentation.

“Thank you so much for your support. We receive many gifts from you that we pass on to the people we serve–everythign from quilts, home furnishings, care baskets. Most importantly, we are thankful for your prayers, and we pass those on as well. When we work together, it is easy to be the Church.”

Erik Gilbertson, Synod Treasurer, presented the 2014 Mission Plan. It was adopted.

Two representatives from the Rosebud Intentional Community gave a presentation.

Bishop Zellmer introduced a video presentation from the Luther House of Study.

After short announcements, Bishop Zellmer declared the 2013 SD Synod Assembly closed.
