The recent influx of unaccompanied children arriving in the U.S. is a result of risk factors causing them to leave their home countries. The children’s countries of origin are aggravated by lack of protection from drug trafficking and poverty, among many other factors. It is important to be informed of the situation and to seek ways to help.

Bishop Mike Rinehart of the Texas-Louisiana Golf Coast Synod wrote a blog post with facts about the situation, his experiences with children at the border, and ways we can respond. You may read the post on his blog.

Lutheran Disaster Response also has a bulletin insert on their website to inform your congregation.
