God's Work. Our Feet. Bike Ride Across South Dakota
Why:
Why bike across the state? To raise awareness and money for Lutheran Malaria Initiative’s “Nothing but Nets”. An initiative to wipe out Malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa. Sound like a big challenge? It is, but it’s definitely attainable. Each year a half a billion people are infected with malaria, a million of those die. This equates to a child dying every 30 seconds. And it’s a preventable disease.
Our Goal:
1,000 Nets from South Dakota! Just $10 buys a net, ships it to Africa, and educates people on how to use it. Please join us!
How can I get involved:
- Just $10 buys an insecticide-treated bed net, delivers it to someone in Africa, and educates them on its use. Protecting people from malaria-infected mosquitoes is that easy: send a net, save a life. It’s something you can do right now. You can write a check and send to Synod office stating God’s Work. Our “Feet” in your memo line. Or give it to one of the riders to show your support!
- Join us as a rider! For more information, contact Pastor Daryl Schubert, St. John in Madison, (605) 256-4855.
- Provide monetary donations to cover meals, snacks, and other expenses for the riders. Please send donations to the Synod Office designated for biking expenses or give to one of the riders.
- Be a roadie, this is a support volunteer willing to drive a vehicle along with the riders. We need between 2 and 4 roadies.
- Provide a vehicle for a roadie to drive to Rapid and back.
- Provide an enclosed trailer for use on the ride to carry luggage and support equipment for the bikers.
- If you have any questions on ways to get involved, please contact Pastor Daryl (605) 256-4855 or Kristi Lee in the Synod Office (605)-553-8268.
When:
Saturday, June 5th through Thursday, June 10th. The riders will leave from Madison on Saturday, June 5th and arrive at Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City on Thursday, June 10th to register for the Synod Assembly. We’ll have stops in Wessington Springs, Pierre, Hayes, Phillip, and Wall.
Who:
So far we have the following riders for all or a portion of the ride:
Pastor Daryl Schubert
Pastor Dave Winterfeldt
Scott Parsley
Pastor Terry Knutsen
Kyle Boese
Jerry Martian
Pastor Tim Robertson
Pastor Bill Tesch
Bishop Dave Zellmer
If you would like to join us, contact Pastor Daryl 605-256-4855.

Second Annual Bishop's Golf Tournament
July 19 in Sioux Falls
The Second Annual Bishop’s Golf Tournament took place on Monday, July 19th at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls. All proceeds from the tournament, after expenses, will go directly to the Answer the Call campaign. Answer the Call has been successful in raising funds for seminary scholarships. We are now turning our attention to raising funds to assist in attracting and retaining first call pastors to South Dakota through enhanced first call support and increased assistance with debt reduction.
