Join us at the 2018 Hunger Summit at DWU in Mitchell. This year’s summit will focus on food sovereignty – the right of peoples to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems. Join as we explore the intersections between food sovereignty, food justice, and the local foods movement happening on the Rosebud Reservation in south central South Dakota. We will look at historical Lakota foodways, the effects of the intentional destruction and colonization of these systems, and of current work to reclaim and rebuild a food system that supports health and wellness for all involved.
