Why Fight It? Or, said another way, wi-fi(t) it?
Technology and Youth Ministry at Joy Ranch
Thursday, March 7
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Schedule for a day-long retreat that will BLOW YOUR MIND – hurry up and sign up!
From 10:00 am – 3:00 pm you can expect time for connection with your collegues, delicious snacks, an amazing lunch, and three sessions that will help you explore, understand, and create ways to use technology to deepen your ministry.
Session 1 – Technology Best Practices in South Dakota and Beyond
In this session, participants will share their own best practices so that we may learn what is already practical and successful. Also, Kevin Stillson, communications coordinator for the SD Synod, will give a snapshot of what the world of social media looks like now (it’s bigger than Facebook, everyone) and how technology is shaping the church. Kevin will also share the resources he follows to stay on top of technology innovations. All of this conversation will be framed by discussion of boundaries for the use of social media by church professionals working with young people.
Session 2 – Top 10 Apps for Ministry
Kevin will give his “Top 10″ list of apps for ministry. This session will be hands-on, allowing you to try the apps, browse the web, and demonstrate for others any of your own “Top 10.”
Session 3 – Technology Milestone
The group will work together to create a ” technology milestone.” What does this mean? You will leave Joy Ranch with a service that blesses an important right of passage for many young people – receiving their first phone. One’s first phone is a BIG deal to a 9, 11, 13-year-old, and with this gift also comes great possibility and concern. A “milestone” lets the church community uplift this important moment and surround it with prayer.
